    FAQs

What happens if a toy I borrowed has a missing part or broken piece?

Please always check to ensure that each toy you borrow is complete and not broken. If you find that you have borrowed a toy with a missing or broken part, please email toycoordinator@boxhillareatoylibrary.org.au as soon as possible.

If you have lost a piece of a toy, you will be asked to re-borrow the toy in an effort to locate the piece. If after that time the piece is still not found, you will be charged a small fine which can be refunded upon the return of the piece.

If the toy was in good condition and the breakage due to misuse, a fine will be charged. Fines for lost or broken toys are:-

    • $2 per small piece
    • $5 per large piece

If a toy is no longer usable due to the breakage, you may be asked to pay the replacement cost of the toy.

What if the toy needs new batteries?

Some of our battery-operated toys may appear to need fresh batteries. We cannot know this unless members tell us! There is a container of new batteries and screwdrivers at the toy library. If you know that the toy you are returning requires new batteries, please allow an extra minute or two to replace them yourself with the ones we provide. You can then check the toy in and continue with your borrowing.

How do I clean different toys?

Toys and their bags/boxes must be cleaned prior to return. Members will be asked upon returning all toys whether they have been cleaned. If toys are returned in an unsanitary condition, cleaning materials will be provided to members at the toy library and the toy must be cleaned prior to return.

Plastic and timber toys – prior to return, clean with disinfecting detergent and ensure toys are dried before placing in bag or box.

Costumes – wash according to instructions on label or bag.

Toy bags and boxes – prior to return, wipe bags and boxes with disinfecting detergent.

After cleaning, please check if toy numbers are visible on each item. If they are not, please re-mark using permanent marker.

What do I do if my child breaks a toy?

If the toy was in good condition and there has been a breakage due to misuse, a fine will be charged.

    Fines for broken toys are:-

    • $2 per small piece
    • $5 per large piece

If a toy is no longer usable due to the breakage, you may be asked to pay the replacement cost of the toy.
